DSL - The beginning of the internet.

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a technology made for telephone systems and has played a vital role in expanding the internet among people. The DSL uses the phone line to transmit voice data and uses the same cable to distribute the internet.

The early installation includes a DSL modem connected to a telephone wall jack and a standard network interface card (NIC) to the computer. In short, the same cable was used to provide phone services as well as provide the internet.

Later, broadband cable followed the same concept, providing cable and internet to customers. Although cable might be dominant among the two, DSL led the way for the spread of the internet across the masses.
